The Meaning of the Giving Season

I put out an announcement a couple of weeks ago that I was booked fully for christmas dog portrait commissions and since then, have been getting inquires from people who are desperate to get a dog or cat who has recently passed away painted. Given that I have about 8 working days left to work on any new commissions, I am clearing the decks for these people.

You know, the pain of grief for a pet is just as real as a family member, and I for one, do not have the heart to tell them no, I don't have time. Yes, I have about 5 Christmas functions to attend, family arriving around the 21st, am celebrating my birthday next week, and in between all that have appointments, and just a lot to do....in addition to buying gifts for our family here and overseas.

My calendar says my time is full, but you know what? I will do my best to realize their dreams of giving a pet portrait to the owner who is in mourning. Even if I have to forgo a couple of functions or just plain stay up late at night, I will try. I've informed them, that if for any reason, I get overwhelmed with it all, we can prepare a beautiful gift certificate to present for a portrait soon to be delivered after Christmas, or we can save it for Valentines day just seven weeks after Xmas....Many people like that option too. So, if you know of someone who lost their pet, have them call me.

At least, those in mourning over their pet will have something on the day to look forward to, even if the portrait can't come exactly on Christmas. Honoring the memory is the most important thing to do - and for that I will try to help. Tis the season.....We can work together to heal the hearts of those who've lost their precious pet. I'm in.
