The past few months have been slow going in the painting part of my life - seems it has taken a back seat to my regular (bread on the table) work., I finished a couple of paintings this summer but they seemed to take painstakingly long - Between a trip to Australia, then friends visiting for 2 weeks at our house, then emerging from each with much to do to reorganize from them, it takes a lot to remember where you were or wanted to me the last time you sat down to paint.
I am finding that my happiest time painting is when I pull the blinds at my studio door and just paint alone. I did that on Saturday, and I started 4 painting and started gessoing masonite pieces to start a new idea I have. Then today, I started three paintings - so I am emerging out of a very productive weekend with 7 painting started!!!! That is really good energy and things are flowing so i am going to follow the energy and harness it for some really good work.
Anyway, borrowing from a new friend's idea, I think i am going to start a new series called Dina's Dogs. It will be small 1 - 2 hour paintings of island dogs. I could continue on that idea and paint Dina's People. Anyway, it would be nice to have a neat compendium of the dogs who lived here during a certain time frame - to interview them (or their parents) and get history on them. Where did they come from - How old are they - etc. etc. but maybe not - just a name could surely suffice in such a compendium. 'These paintings will be on small 8 x 8 boards on oils so I can finish one a day to enter the realm of the daily painter.
I am looking forward to this process. Even after starting on these seven - I have high hopes that I can do this and it will be so much fun doing it. If you have a dog that you would like me to paint, let me have a picture and see what I can do.
All this will be done in the middle of my balancing act of work, art and work outs - so I will be balancing time and space to accomplish everything. I am excited about the artwork I am putting out at this pace and with this natural rthymn - my art life that I do at nights and on weekends will be just great...I'll start posting these painting I started as i finish them....until then...
